Importance measures for noncoherent-system analysis

چکیده
SUMMARY Component importance analysis is a key part of the system reliability quantification process. It enables the weakest areas of a system to be identified and indicates modifications, which will improve the system reliability. Although a wide range of importance measures have been developed, the majority of these measures are strictly for coherent system analysis. Non-coherent systems can occur and accurate importance analysis is essential. This paper extends four commonly used measures of importance, using the non-coherent extension of Birnbaum's measure of component reliability importance. NOTATION k C Prime implicant set k or minimal cut set k for non-coherent and coherent systems respectively.

Birnbaum's measure of component importance for noncoherent systems
Importance analysis of noncoherent systems is limited, and is generally inaccurate because all measures of importance that have been developed are strictly for coherent analysis. This paper considers the probabilistic measure of component importance developed by Birnbaum (1969). An extension of this measure is proposed which enables noncoherent importance analysis. As a result of the proposed e...
متن کاملGeometric and dynamic perspectives on phase-coherent and noncoherent chaos.
Statistically distinguishing between phase-coherent and noncoherent chaotic dynamics from time series is a contemporary problem in nonlinear sciences. In this work, we propose different measures based on recurrence properties of recorded trajectories, which characterize the underlying systems from both geometric and dynamic viewpoints. The potentials of the individual measures for discriminatin...
متن کاملOn the reliability importance of system components
In reliability theory, some measures are introduced , called importance measures, to evaluate the relative importance of individual components or groups of components in a system. Importance measures are quantitive criteria that ranke the components according to their importance. In the literature, different importance measures are presented based on different scenarios. These measures can b...
متن کاملNoncoherent coded modulation
Tkellis coded modulation with two or multidimensional signal constellations, together with coherent maximumlikelihood detection, is considered an attractive solution for communications over the additive while Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. In this paper a new noncoherent communication system is introduced called noncoherent coded modulation (NCM) as an alternative to coherent coded modulation. ...
متن کاملDiversity Analysis for Relay-Assisted Distributed BICM-OSTBC- OFDM System
Maximum spatial-frequency diversity can be achieve by combining bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM), orthogonal space-time block coding (OSTBC) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in frequency selective multi-path fading channels, provided that perfect channel state information (CSI) is available to the receiver. In view of the fact that perfect CSI can be obtained only if...
